Vernalisation Response of Some Winter Wheat Cultivars (Triticum aestivum L.)

ثبت نشده
چکیده

For 17 cultivars of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) different vernalisation and photoperiod responses were detected. The effect of photoperiod sensitivity was not significantly changed by vernalisation; different vernalisation responses were probably due to the presence of multiple alleles at Vrn loci. The delay in heading depended on the vernalisation deficit exponentially: y = parameter (1) + [y0 – parameter (1)] × EXP [parameter (2) × (x – x0)]. The dependence was shown to be general and significant for the given model in all the studied cultivars. Individual regressions characterised responses of cultivars to a deficit of vernalisation treatment. Cluster analysis according to the characterisation obtained (full vernalisation requirement, minimum vernalisation requirement, insufficient vernalisation and parameters of the dependence) showed the relationships between cultivars and enabled their grouping by similar profiles of vernalisation, and, possibly, of photoperiod response. In individual cultivars, an attempt was made to use the model to predict performance for some agronomic traits.

Response of Antioxidative Defence System to Low Temperature Stress in Two Wheat Cultivars

Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) plants change their metabolic state in response to low non-freezing temperatures adjusting the cellular homeostasis for upcoming winter season. The induction of oxidative stress during cold hardening as well as in response to freezing stress and recovery was under investigation in this work. Here we present data about the performance of some enzymes involved in plan...

A simplified AFLP method for fingerprinting of common wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars.

The simplified AFLP method was developed and evaluated for identification and genetic diversity studies of wheat cultivars. Selective primers exploited in AFLP assay based on a single cutting enzyme PstI ((PstI)AFLP) generated total of 111 robust fragments, including 67 (60%) monomorphic and 12 (11%) cultivar-specific markers. Average similarity between 15 cultivars was 0.650, and varied from 0...

Effects of an intercultivaral chromosome substitution on winterhardiness and vernalization in wheat.

During a study on the genetic control of winterhardiness in winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L. group aestivum), a gene that affected vernalization was found on chromosome 3B in the winter wheat cultivar ;Wichita.' When chromosome 3B from Wichita was substituted into the winter wheat cultivar ;Cheyenne,' the resultant substitution line exhibited a spring growth habit. This is unusual since a cro...

Evaluation of gene expression changes of miR156 and miR172 and their targeted genes (AP2 & SPL3; vernalization factors) in two bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars

Floral transition through vernalization has a large influence on cold tolerance and agronomic traits in winter cereals. It is now apparent that in many plants small RNAs play critical roles in determination of the flowering time. There is evidence suggesting that the miR156 and miR172 families play a key role in the flowering transition of plants. In this study, the expression of two temporally ...

Growth Response of Winter Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and Wild Barley (Hordeum spontaneum Koch) to Nitrogen

A greenhouse study was conducted to investigate the effects of nitrogen (N) on wild barley (Hordeum spontaneum Koch) interference with winter wheat (Triticum aestivum var. Pishtaz) by an additive series experiment. The experiment was conducted in a split plot design with 3 replications. Wheat plant height losses were on average 30, 10, and 10% in a wild barley density of 16 plants per pot with ...
